Ash Hill students "Get Up To Speed With STEM" at Magna Science Adventure Centre

On Wednesday, a group of 30 Year 7 students attended the Get Up to Speed with STEM event at Magna Science Adventure Centre at Rotherham. This annual event is designed for young people to see some of the UK's best innovations first hand, hear from and talk to those involved in their success and learn about the future of the sector and its evolution through technology.

Dr Rahul Mandal, research associate at the University of Sheffield Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and more recognisably known for winning the Great British Bake Off in 2018, gave an inspiring perspective of his own journey and how it has led him to encourage students to pursue careers in STEM subjects.

Students were fantastic in getting hands-on with every activity and holding inquisitive and intellectual conversations with representatives of local businesses like Polypipe and McLaren, and educational providers such as the AMRC and University of Sheffield.

Students were a credit to the Academy and themselves, and we hope we have aspiring scientists, engineers and mathematicians amongst our ranks.
