Ash Hill takes reading seriously

The English Department recently welcomed KS3 students and parents to a celebration and information evening about the benefits of reading.

Miss Haigh and Mrs Shaplin led a presentation about Ash Hill’s ‘Secondary Reading Strategy’ which is centered around reading texts to understand layers of meaning and is the foundation for our English Curriculum. In addition to reading assessments and bespoke support, we also offer students the opportunity to read for pleasure in our newly dedicated library area set up by Literacy Lead Mrs Shaplin.

Parents were given information about how to support reading at home so that we can all promote the importance of reading. It was a pleasure to discuss our favourite stories and books with parents and pupils and staff! And eat cupcakes…of course.
