Principal's update - Wider Reopening of the Academy - March 2021

23rd February 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

Important update - arrangements for the wider reopening of schools March 2021

You will have seen media coverage of recent government proposals for secondary schools from March 8th 2021.   The Government has advised that secondary schools in England should fully re-open to all students and staff from March 8th 2021.

I would like to update you on our plans, following these latest announcements.

Rapid testing will continue to remain a vital part of the Government’s plan to suppress this virus, in education and childcare settings and across the country. This sort of testing means that asymptomatic people who might otherwise continue to attend educational settings are identified and self-isolate.

Students will be expected to take part in the onsite asymptomatic Covid testing programme. After an initial programme of 3 rapid Covid tests in school, students will be provided with two rapid tests to use each week at home. Our staff will also continue to be provided with two tests to use each week at home. We will continue to engage in the track and trace programme and the principles of ‘identify and isolate’ to break the chains of transmission.

How we will roll out this testing programme is currently still being finalised and further details will follow. An instructional leaflet with some more information can be found at:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/946612/How_to_do_your_test_COVID_19_instruction_leaflet_for_schools.pdf

If you are happy for your child to be tested, please fill in the electronic consent form via this link: Link to consent form

Alternatively, if you require a paper copy, please contact the academy directly.

Those taking the test will be supervised by trained staff. The ‘lateral flow’ tests are quick and easy, using a swab of your nose and throat. Staff will oversee the swab process. Results (which take around half an hour from testing) will be shared directly with parents or legal guardians, where participants are under 16. Testing will be offered free of charge.

Students will return in full school uniform and the details of times and days will follow. If you are unsure about our uniform expectations, you should check the relevant section on the academy website at: https://www.ashhillacademy.org.uk/uniform The usual rules and legal expectations around school attendance are in place from 8th March 2021 (including mandatory attendance).

I would like to thank all members of our school community for their continued support and we will update you as soon as we can, as more information is provided by the government that relates to the wider reopening of schools.

Yours sincerely,

Mr G Moffatt

Principal
