Principal's update 5th January

5th January, 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Following the Prime Minister's announcement that schools will be closed to students, apart from those that are classed as vulnerable or the children of Critical Workers, we want to reassure you that we are fully committed to providing a comprehensive and engaging on-line education for all our students and will be ensuring that we also prioritise our students' well-being during this disruptive and unsettling period. The email that I sent to all parents and carers last week gave a break down and timetable for the phased return of students. This has obviously now changed and all students not eligible to attend the Academy will access on-line learning through Microsoft Teams accessible through the Academy's website.

We will contact you in the coming days about any required modifications to students' on-line timetables and details about the upcoming Year 10 vocational examinations which involve a number of Year 10 students. We will also provide more information about how we will develop our on-line learning provision through updates on the Academy website and through our SchoolComms communication platform. Given that we find ourselves in a very changeable and unpredictable situation, I hope that parents and carers will understand that there is a significant amount of planning and preparation to undertake to ensure that we meet our students' needs but also that we keep our staff safe with regards to the Prime Minister's directive about working from home where possible to meet social distancing protocols.

All students should access the educational provision on Microsoft Teams. We advise that Years 7 to 10 spend four hours on-line per school day and Year 11 to spend five hours engaging in learning. Having built in breaks is important to stay engaged and motivated. Currently live on-line teaching is being prioritised with Year 11, who are in their final examination year and some Year 10s who are sitting external examinations in January. We will review this in the coming days and weeks and update you on changes to how educational provision is delivered.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding - it is valued greatly and appreciated.

Take care everyone.

Yours faithfully

Graham Moffatt
