The students in Year 9 at Ash Hill Academy have had a great day learning about Higher Education, universities and careers during an opportunity we have had to have universities visit us on the HEPPSY (Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire) bus. This bus is no ordinary bus, but a learning resource which is full of high tech equipment designed to allow the students to learn in a different environment to a normal classroom. During the day all Year 9 students learnt from Graduate Interns who have taken a year out of their career to travel around and guide students on this bus.
All students in Year 9 gained an insight into life inside a Formula 1 company and the jobs that were available to them, as well as researching the different roles using the laptops on the bus. They also had a look at what sort of degrees were available at universities up and down the country and where shocked to find some of the courses which they had no idea were available could be studied in England.
Finally, the students were given the opportunity to ask the recently qualified students a whole host of questions about universities, accommodation, finance, friendship and clubs/societies.
A great day was had by all the students, with lots of new information provided, all aimed at raising the aspirations and expectations of all students involved.
