Update on reopening - 14th April

Monday 12th April 2021

Dear Parent or Carer

I am writing to you to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances and events beyond the Academy’s control, we will not be able to open on Wednesday 14th April as planned at the normal time.

We will instead be welcoming our students back later than anticipated to the Academy in a staggered way with each Year group coming in prior to their lunch at the following times:

Years 7 and 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Years 9 and 10 at 11:30 a.m.

Year 8 at 12 noon

The DFE and building contractor were not in a position to hand the keys to the new building over to the Trust and myself as Principal until 3.30 p.m. this afternoon meaning we were unable to access it today. This meant that we would only have Tuesday 14th April to unpack all the transferred equipment, furniture and resources brought over from the soon to be demolished block and to also get the new building operationally ready, ensuring that all the necessary Covid-19 safety control measures needed to keep everyone safe, are in place.

Whilst this delay to opening on Wednesday is beyond our control, I wish to apologise for the disruption this unforeseen development may cause you and your family. When I wrote to you last Friday, these delays were certainly not expected, but are not uncommon with large scale building projects.

Having toured the site on its completion with representatives from the Galiford Try, the building contractor and the DFE, I can honestly say that the finished building is truly spectacular, and I am looking forward to a time when we can warmly welcome you as parents and carers into our brand-new auditorium when Covid-19 restrictions are finally lifted. I am sure that your child will be very impressed when they go to their timetabled lessons in the new building.

Our teaching staff will provide learning through Microsoft Teams Classroom for students on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, they will be unable to teach live lessons as they will be working collectively to ensure we are ready to open safely.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Your support is invaluable, and we hugely appreciate it as an Academy community.

Yours faithfully

Mr. G. Moffatt
