School closure update

19 March 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

As mentioned in my previous correspondence, the Academy will be closed to students on the following days: Friday 26 March, Monday 12 April and Tuesday 13 April to allow our staff to prepare for the opening of the new building and for the transfer or delivery of furniture, IT equipment and other essential items. These are exceptional closure dates that the Department for Education allow for school personnel to move into new buildings and for the completion of the handover process from the DFE and contractors to the Academy. This is a large logistical operation.

Teaching staff will provide learning through Microsoft Teams. Students should therefore follow their normal timetable, attending lessons via their Teams Classrooms.  Students are expected to be on time and ensure they complete any tasks as directed by their teachers. Tasks will be set in the form of assignments in classrooms. There is a dedicated page on our website to support staff, students and parents and this can be found here

Should you be unable to access Microsoft Teams during these days, please contact the Academy at or by telephoning on the above number.

The building is fantastically designed and I cannot wait to share images of its classrooms, specialist teaching rooms, dining hall and auditorium with parents and carers when complete. I’m positive that you will be impressed by the scale and ambition of the project and the amazing facilities it will provide our students for many years to come.

Initially, given that the current Government guidance requires us to continue in the immediate future in year group bubbles, the new building will be used by Year 7 whose current learning base will be demolished as part of the building and refurbishment project and by those students in Years 9, 10 and 11 receiving specialist teaching in options subjects. The Department for Education and the building contractor, Galliford Try, also require that essential works need to be undertaken on these days and throughout the Easter period.

Yours faithfully

Mr G Moffatt
