Consent form

Here is a reminder of the letter that we sent last week:

20th May 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Leave 11 Study Leave

I am writing to you to give you updated information regarding plans for our Year 11 students for the process of beginning study leave. Year 11 end their formal internal assessments on Friday 28th May 2021.  I will explain the arrangements for the end of Year 11 in more detail but firstly I would like to pay tribute to them and you, their committed and dedicated parents.

This has, without question, been a most challenging year but I must commend the resilience of this wonderful group of students who have coped admirably well. Whilst I have only known them for a brief period, I have been incredibly proud of how they have responded to an international health crisis, experienced by very few generations. I would like to thank you as parents and carers for your unstinting support and help in getting your children through this difficult period along with our staff in the Academy, including their teachers, support staff, their incredibly committed Learning Manager, Mrs Falkingham along with other colleagues in the inclusion team. Of all the year groups in school at this moment in time, the class of 2021 have had to deal with the greatest level of disruption. They lost a good proportion of Year 10 due to the first national lockdown, and since moving to Year 11, with all the pressures that entails, there have been further difficulties with additional lockdowns, remote learning and periods of isolation for many. Despite all that, they have risen to every challenge. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have worked with them during this crucial time in their education.

All Y11 students officially remain on roll with the academy until Friday 25th June.  However, from Friday 28th May, students may request ‘study leave’ and will only need to return to the Academy to complete any outstanding evidence or assessment or in order to support their Key Stage Five provision at sixth form, college or in training.  Due to the nature of this year, we may still need evidence from some students beyond half term. At present, we are working on a ‘passport system’ where subject leaders sign off students as completed in their subject areas. Once students have secured sufficient evidence in all areas, and it has been agreed by our leadership team, they may commence study leave. Teachers and Subject Leaders will contact students to arrange these sessions on a group or individual basis. It is vitally important that students attend these sessions to help teachers gather the final pieces of evidence to inform robust assessment.

That said, on Friday 28th May, we will be holding a Covid-19 safe celebration assembly. On this day, Year 11 students will finish at 12.00pm where traditional shirt signing and ‘fond farewells’ can take place.

For study leave to be granted, students are required to complete a ‘study leave’ form and must gain parental permission for study leave to commence. These forms will be sent via SchoolComms and text message to parents and carers to complete early next week which need to be returned as soon as possible.

To be clear - Students will not be permitted study leave without parental consent.

Centre Assessed Grades

We are currently working hard to ensure we get out our Centre Assessed Grades to examination boards. Once they have been submitted, the examination boards make decisions about the results students received. At this stage, this is all I can tell you about grades as we have been instructed by the DFE not to share anything with students or parents and carers. Please see our school website for guidance on how grades will be calculated this year or for further information please see this link which guides you through the process we follow.

College Applications

As you can imagine, we want to ensure that all students are fully prepared for the next stage in their lives. If you require any further support with this, we are happy to help. For further information please contact Mr Downing or our careers advisor, Helen Green.

Returning/Recycling Revision Guides

We are running on a very tight budget in school at this moment in time and we are always looking for ways to cut costs and be environmentally friendly. If you have any textbooks or revision guides you would like us to recycle/ reuse, then please hand these in at Main Reception. We would obviously ensure these are sanitised before reissuing them.

It is always helpful to have a large stock to lend when students forget things or if some families, in these challenging times, are struggling to make ends meet. If you have any uniform you would like to donate (in particular Delta blazers, jumpers, shirts and ties) these can also be handed in at our Main Reception. Again, these will be washed thoroughly before reissuing.

And finally...

On behalf of all staff, I would like to say thank you for your support and cooperation during your child’s time at Ash Hill Academy. Your children have been wonderful! Please do have a great summer (which we hope is that little bit closer to normality) and take care of yourselves and your families. Ash Hill staff are very much hoping to see you on 12th August. In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us here at the Academy.

Yours sincerely

Mr G Moffatt
