Ash Hill Academy students swapped their usual timetable for a morning of Careers-focused sessions as we continue to support our students in raising aspirations and considering their future after Ash Hill Academy.

Y7 students were introduced to online careers software Start Profile and began to contemplate their current goals for the future. Students now have their log in details for Start Profile and therefore can access this in the academy in the LRC, in future Careers events and also at home. Students can use Start Profile to research careers and their pathways, include entry requirements and qualifications along the way.

Y8 students were involved in Mission to Mars, a virtual STEM workshop delivered by EDT (Engineering Development Trust). Students had a lot of fun and learned about the growing UK aerospace industry and the many careers that will be created. Students also had the opportunity to build Moon Landers with parachutes – a task in order to lower a mass to the ground as slowly as possible with a parachute.

Y9 and Y10 students alongside their Careers sessions attended an assembly delivered by HeppSY (Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire). HeppSy is part of the Uni Connect Programme and their incredible work is to provide targeted high education outreach to young people.

Amy spoke to Y9 about the range of jobs available in different sectors and industries and how the future job market could change. Amy spoke about the importance of qualifications and skills and how a range of these will benefit students as they consider their options after Y11.

Amy spoke to Y10 about similar topics however emphasised the importance of good decision making and the impact of poor decision making has students move closer to the end of secondary school and the next step. Decision making could include our actions, our use of time, decisions for subjects taken in further education and the many opportunities available to us in the region.
