Our Year 9 Ambition students continued their long list of experiences this week, by learning first hand about the everyday life of a prisoner and the huge impact their crimes can have on themselves but also their families.

Students learned about the devastation and wide spread impact caused by knife crime and gangs in the Yorkshire region including the families of the victim and the criminal. This also included how being involved by association can lead to long term imprisonment even though the crime was committed by somebody else.

Students learned about the devastation of drugs, addiction and county lines in the Yorkshire region. Again this included how this impacted families of all involved – this affects the loved ones of those involved in such areas of crime.

Students had the opportunity to sit inside a mobile authentic prison cell for two people to demonstrate how everyday life can be a tough and frustrating experience sharing a small space with a complete stranger, and the lack of privacy and your own space.

Finally students participated in a workshop delivered by a prison officer and an ex prisoner who spent 14 years inside for murder. This was a thought-provoking experience about the challenges that all ex prisoners face regardless of the crime they committed once they gain their freedom back and try to live a normal and successful life.
